Victoria A. Lazear, founder and president of Applied Economic Partners (AEP), and Mark A. Allen, former vice president of AEP, have joined Cornerstone Research.
Ms. Lazear brings over twenty-five years of experience applying economic theory to issues in litigation and regulation. She provides expert testimony and directs research for expert testimony in cases involving the estimation of damages and other issues in litigation encompassing antitrust, telecommunications, high technology, e-commerce and the Internet, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, securities, financial institutions, energy, regulation, and labor. Her experience includes cases involving claimed breach of contract, economic reasonability of contracts, intellectual property, unfair competition, disparagement, complex valuation, and related economic issues. She has testified in court and in hearings before regulatory commissions.
Prior to founding AEP, Ms. Lazear was a vice president at Cornerstone Research, where she helped develop the firm’s intellectual property practice. She has lectured on the economic analysis of damages and has taught the economics of regulation and public utilities at the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business. In addition, Ms. Lazear coauthored with Robert E. Hall "Reference Guide on Estimation of Losses in Damages Awards," in the Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence.
Mark Allen, formerly a vice president of AEP, has worked on a variety of cases involving antitrust, telecommunications, high technology, e-commerce and the Internet, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, securities, financial institutions, energy, and intellectual property.
Mr. Allen has over ten years of experience in economic consulting, with an emphasis on economic damages and general commercial litigation, including breach of contract and valuation. He has worked closely with academic experts and attorneys, assisting in the preparation of expert reports and testimony.
Prior to joining AEP, Mr. Allen worked as a trial lawyer and litigator in Washington, D.C., and Virginia. His case experience includes labor and employment, mass tort, and other commercial litigation in state and federal courts. He has participated in appellate practice before the United States Supreme Court, federal courts of appeals, and the Virginia Supreme Court. Mr. Allen has lectured on topics including breach of contract, torts, and labor and employment litigation.
Ms. Lazear and Mr. Allen will be based in Cornerstone Research’s Menlo Park office.
