Howard Marvel is an expert in industrial organization and its application to antitrust and regulation law and policy. His research has examined pricing practices, how companies relate to one another, and how their organization impacts market performance, focusing particularly on supplier/dealer contractual relationships, often known as vertical restraints.
Professor Marvel has testified as an expert in antitrust litigation and other business disputes involving price fixing, monopolization, vertical restraints, and other distribution issues. His work has been cited widely by courts and antitrust authorities, notably in both the majority opinion and the dissent in the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Leegin Creative Leather Products Inc. v. PSKS Inc. Professor Marvel has provided testimony in court and at deposition, and he has submitted numerous expert reports. He has served as an expert in matters involving several industries, including consumer and intermediate products, energy, insurance, automotive, and construction products.
Professor Marvel has acted as a consultant on antitrust and other competition matters for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and major private firms.
At The Ohio State University, where Professor Marvel received a distinguished teaching award, he was a professor of economics in the Department of Economics and professor of law in the Michael E. Moritz College of Law.
