Anca Cojoc Joins Cornerstone Research

Experienced economics consultant and former Competition and Markets Authority economist expands firm’s competition capabilities in the UK and Europe.

London—Cornerstone Research, a leading provider of economic and financial consulting and expert testimony, has today announced that Anca Cojoc joins the firm’s UK competition team as a principal. Dr Cojoc will be based in the firm’s London office, and her appointment is effective immediately.

Dr Cojoc consults on antitrust and competition matters, with a focus on competition litigation, investigations and mergers. She has substantial expertise in implementing applied econometric and statistical models to competition economics, damages and regulatory issues. A former economist at the UK Competition Commission (now the Competition and Markets Authority, or CMA), she has more than a decade of experience leading teams in both consulting and regulatory settings.

Dr Cojoc has addressed competition issues related to anticompetitive behaviour, market definition, barriers to entry, exclusive contracts and vertical restraints. In competition litigation matters, she has assessed liability and estimated damages.

The global W@Competition platform has recognised Dr Cojoc in its ‘30 in their 30s’ Notable Women Competition Professionals survey.

Commenting on her move, Dr Cojoc says, ‘I’m delighted to join Cornerstone Research and the European competition practice. As competition regimes in the UK and elsewhere continue to mature and grow in complexity, it’s exciting to have the opportunity to work alongside such an outstanding international team.’

Liam Colley, head of Cornerstone Research’s European competition practice, says, ‘We warmly welcome Anca to the firm and to our antitrust and competition team. She brings valuable competition economics expertise, as well as broad experience with market investigations and mergers—honed during her years at the CMA.’

In her recent work, Dr Cojoc evaluated the role and impact of big data on competition policy, particularly how current competition frameworks can address the increased presence of big data in digital ecosystems. She also worked with T-Mobile Czech Republic in the European Commission’s investigation into network sharing agreements, and supported mobile operators in Phase II mergers at the European Commission.

Before joining Cornerstone Research, Dr Cojoc held senior roles as an economic consultant, supporting clients on matters related to antitrust, damages and mergers.

Dr Cojoc is fluent in English and Romanian.
