Marlene Haas consults on complex financial economics issues arising in securities, corporate transaction, and regulatory matters, both in the U.S. and Europe. Dr. Haas applies sophisticated economic analyses to market manipulation and disruptive trading issues, crypto token categorization, commercial uses for FinTech, and corporate transactions. Her experience spans a variety of financial assets and industries, with a focus on banking, broker-dealers, trading platforms, FinTech, derivative instruments, and cryptocurrency. She leads large teams and supports academic and industry experts across all stages of litigation, internal and regulatory investigations, and arbitrations.

Trading in financial markets

Dr. Haas has analyzed spoofing, wash trading, front running, cross-market trading, sharing of proprietary information, collusion, and allegations of manipulation of settlement indices. She has worked on matters involving exchange markets and over-the-counter markets, traditional financial instruments and underlying products, and crypto token products. She has assisted clients in evaluating trade positions, order placement, best execution, and hedging of transactions in commodities and financial markets.


Dr. Haas consults to clients on crypto token categorization, reserve funding, commercial uses of FinTech, cryptocurrency trading platforms, and cryptocurrency compliance systems, among other issues.

Dr. Haas’s research on market microstructure topics has been published in the Journal of Financial Economics, the Journal of Financial Markets, the Journal of Financial Compliance, and Compliance Monitor. She has presented to staff at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and has conducted studies to inform the SEC’s rule-making process.
