Louis Berneman is a noted intellectual property expert specializing in licensing and technology transfer issues. Mr. Berneman has decades of experience with licensing transactions, royalties, and start-up financing involving institutions, companies, investors, and entrepreneurs. He has valued, structured, negotiated, drafted, and monitored hundreds of intellectual property license agreements in the life sciences and technology industries.
As an expert witness, Mr. Berneman has testified in intellectual property litigation in federal and state courts. He has extensive experience with licensing and damages issues and has provided testimony in deposition, in arbitration, and at trial. Mr. Berneman has analyzed allegations of patent infringement and breach of contract, and evaluated practices and standards related to sublicensing.
For ten years, Mr. Berneman served as managing director of the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Technology Transfer (CTT). Previously, he directed licensing and business development for Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology (CIT).
Mr. Berneman is a past president of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM), which focuses on licensing technology created through academic and nonprofit research. He is also a former vice president and trustee of the Licensing Executives Society (LES), a professional licensing and technology transfer society.
