CFTC Drops Lawsuit in Spoofing Case

Commodity Futures Trading Commission v. Logista Advisors LLC was dismissed without prejudice.

Retained by Sidley Austin LLP

In a civil enforcement action relating to trading activity in crude oil and natural gas futures markets brought by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), defense counsel retained Cornerstone Research to support Jennifer Marietta-Westberg of Cornerstone Research and William (Ken) Jarrett.

Dr. Marietta-Westberg evaluated the economic analyses presented in the matter and assessed whether the trading activity at issue was consistent with broader market behavior and conditions.

Mr. Jarrett, an experienced energy trader, provided perspectives on the structure and functioning of crude oil and natural gas futures markets. He evaluated how the trading at issue compared with customary market practice.

In December 2025, the CFTC agreed to dismiss this lawsuit with prejudice. Notably, this judgement is an outlier in the recent tide of spoofing cases in which the courts found in favor of Plaintiffs.
