Packard Bell, the nation’s leading producer of personal computers at the time, announced a merger involving subsidiaries of NEC and Groupe Bull. The antitrust implications were worldwide. Cornerstone Research analyzed worldwide computer sales and potential market share changes in each affected market, arming counsel with data demonstrating that the merger would not be anticompetitive under the merger guidelines in effect on either side of the Atlantic. Both U.S. and European antitrust regulatory authorities cleared the transaction without formal investigation.
