Global Standards Leadership Conference 2026: The Future of SEPs and Standards

Share

The annual conference brings together industry leaders to discuss developments in standard-essential patent litigation, licensing, and standards development across global technology markets.

Now in its fifth year, the Global Standards Leadership Conference (GSLC) connects technology executives, legal experts, economists, and policymakers to consider high-stakes litigation, standards development, and policy for standard essential patents (SEPs) and fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory (FRAND) licensing.

This year’s event, held in San Diego, CA, looks at core developments in technology standardization. Focused sessions will examine global SEP disputes, streaming media royalty models evolution, the impact of Dynamic Random-Access Memory (DRAM) standards on AI infrastructure, and the technologies driving 6G wireless technology transition.

Cornerstone Research’s Kirti Gupta, a GSLC cofounder, will open the day with a presentation of a new report on global IP litigation trends before participating in the panel on streaming media SEP licensing.

Panel 3: DRAM Memory Standards: The Next SEP Battlefield in AI Infrastructure

The rapid growth of AI and data-intensive computing is highlighting the importance of DRAM SEPs and reshaping memory licensing, like in the recent launch of the Via LA DRAM patent pool. Panelists will review emerging licensing models, enforcement activity, and evolving market dynamics to consider the next phase of DRAM SEP monetization.

Panel 4: Emerging 4G/5G Cellular Verticals on the Road to 6G

This panel examines how emerging technologies and new industry verticals and use cases are moving cellular connectivity beyond traditional smartphone markets. Looking ahead to 6G, panelists will discuss how coming innovations are creating new opportunities across connected ecosystems.

The Global Standards Leadership Conference (GSLC) brings together leaders from intellectual property, standardization, government, and academia.

Founded and organized by Tim Pohlmann (Managing Director Americas, LexisNexis IP), Justus Baron (BRELA and FRANDLY), and Kirti Gupta (Cornerstone Research), GSLC bridges the worlds of licensing, litigation, policy, academia, and industry. The conference fosters robust discussions, debates, and connections among professionals, all working to promote common standards that drive innovation worldwide.
