Cornerstone Research Welcomes Back Marina Martynova as Principal

An award-winning former financial economist with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Dr. Martynova brings extensive corporate governance, securities, and valuation experience.

Cornerstone Research, a leading provider of economic and financial consulting and expert testimony, announced today that Marina Martynova has rejoined the firm as a principal, based in the Washington office.

Dr. Martynova returns to Cornerstone Research after nine years of service as a Principal Financial Economist in the SEC’s Office of Litigation Economics. There she received the Distinguished Service Award, the SEC’s highest honorary recognition, for her work.

Dr. Martynova consults on financial and economic issues arising in securities litigation and government investigations and enforcement actions. She is also an expert on the valuation of public and private companies and complex securities.

While at the SEC, Dr. Martynova provided economic analysis and guidance for investigations and enforcement actions taken by the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

Dr. Martynova has served as a testifying expert on behalf of the SEC and DOJ. She has authored expert reports and testified in depositions on issues of materiality, ill-gotten gains, investor harm, and valuation. Dr. Martynova also served as the lead economist on regulatory matters related to investment funds and advisors, private funds, clearing agencies, and foreign companies listed in the U.S.

Dr. Martynova has held academic positions at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, Sheffield University Management School (UK), and Tilburg University (Netherlands). She has published her research in leading academic peer-reviewed journals and has contributed chapters to several prominent corporate finance textbooks.

Dr. Martynova spent eight years at Cornerstone Research before joining the SEC.
