Former DOJ Director of Economics W. Robert Majure Joins Cornerstone Research

Respected leader of DOJ Antitrust Division’s economic analysis program will focus on mergers and antitrust and competition matters.

Washington—Cornerstone Research, a leading provider of economic and financial consulting and expert testimony, is pleased to announce that former U.S. Department of Justice Director of Economics W. Robert “Bob” Majure has joined the firm as a vice president, based in the Washington, DC, office.

Dr. Majure retired from the DOJ in late 2018 following a career spanning nearly twenty-five years. He spent seven years as chief of the Competition Policy Section before being named Director of Economics in 2010, a position he held until his retirement from public service.

“In embarking on this new chapter of my career, I look forward to contributing my economics expertise to Cornerstone Research’s formidable antitrust and competition practice.”

Regarded within the DOJ as the “linchpin” of the Antitrust Division’s economic analysis program, Dr. Majure directly supported the U.S. Deputy Assistant Attorney General (DAAG). In this position, he closely monitored merger enforcement and litigation matters and supervised all economic work underpinning the Division’s wide-ranging enforcement and policy activities. Dr. Majure also helped to establish long-term working relationships with domestic and foreign agencies.

“Bob is one of the country’s foremost authorities on the economic analyses that are the basis of competition enforcement,” said Michael E. Burton, Cornerstone Research’s president and CEO. “We are thrilled to have Bob join us and add his superb expertise, particularly with mergers and merger review, to our firm’s growing antitrust and competition practice.”

Cornerstone Research’s antitrust and competition practice provides economic analysis for litigation and government investigations involving proposed mergers and allegations of anticompetitive horizontal conduct or monopolization. The firm consults on class certification, liability, and damages issues in a range of industries. For more information, please visit the firm’s antitrust and competition webpage.

“Cornerstone Research has developed a formidable reputation in competition circles. The firm has consulted on some of the nation’s most consequential matters and works with some of the most promising academics in the field,” noted Dr. Majure. “I am excited to apply my economics skills in a consulting setting as I embark on this new chapter of my career.”
