The American Antitrust Institute has honored Georgetown University Professor for Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Economics.

Nathan Miller of Georgetown University is an honoree of the American Antitrust Institute 2023 Antitrust Enforcement Awards. Professor Miller is receiving the award for Outstanding Antitrust Litigation Achievement in Economics for his work in U.S. and Plaintiff States v. American Airlines Group Inc. and JetBlue Airways Corp.

Professor Miller served as the United States Department of Justice’s economist and expert witness. Supported by Cornerstone Research, he provided testimony on the competitive effects of the Northeast Alliance agreement between American Airlines and JetBlue Airways.

The court issued an unequivocal ruling in favor of the DOJ, frequently echoing Professor Miller’s testimony in the opinion. The judge noted “Dr. Miller was a thoughtful, credible, and well-credentialed expert witness. He was articulate and methodical in explaining his conclusions and the analysis underlying them, but also candid in acknowledging the limitations of his opinions. More than any other expert testifying in this case, Dr. Miller was consistently measured and precise in his responses, even throughout defense counsel’s aggressive cross-examination.”
