Danial Asmat consults on antitrust and competition matters alleging monopolization, price fixing, and collusion, as well as merger investigations and trials.
Dr. Asmat served for over five years as a lead staff economist in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ). In this role, he worked on high-profile trials including US vs. Lichewski (canned tuna) and Anthem/Cigna, as well as other matters involving digital advertising, cloud computing, food processing, and industrial products.
Dr. Asmat has presented his research on cartels, collusion, price discrimination, and related topics at academic and professional conferences in North America and Europe. He has published articles in leading industrial organization and antitrust journals, including the Journal of Industrial Economics and The Antitrust Bulletin. His work on price fixing in the semiconductor industry won the Young Economists’ Essay Award (YEEA) from the European Association for Research in Industrial Economics (EARIE). Dr. Asmat also received two Awards of Distinction while serving in the Antitrust Division.
Before joining Cornerstone Research, Dr. Asmat was a staff research economist/scientist at Spotify, consulting on models to improve auctions and estimate price elasticity of demand. He previously worked at Amazon, where he developed data driven models to optimize digital products.
Dr. Asmat taught applied microeconomics as an adjunct faculty member at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan.
