Scott Wilson has over a decade of experience leading teams that support experts and attorneys across all phases of regulatory matters and litigation, including class certification, merits, mediation, and trial. Dr. Wilson has expertise in issues involving insurance markets, pension plans, securities, and financial institutions.

Insurance and pension plans

Dr. Wilson coheads the insurance and pension plans practice at Cornerstone Research. His experience includes:

  • Evaluating actuarial issues related to loss-reserving practices for insurance liabilities
  • Assessing asset and liability management (ALM) issues
  • Analyzing insurance company surplus levels, risk-based capital (RBC), and other metrics of financial health
  • Conducting asset adequacy analysis (AAA) for long-term insurance liabilities
  • Examining state-level insurance regulations and protections offered by state guaranty associations
  • Evaluating claims handling processes, particularly how case reserves are set and factors that insurers consider when paying claims
  • Analyzing funding of reinsurance trusts and credit for reinsurance
  • Examining the appropriateness of fees on annuity products
  • Valuation of pension and post-retirement welfare liabilities
  • Modeling pension plan asset returns and assessing the risk of pension insolvency
Securities and financial institutions

Dr. Wilson has extensive experience leading teams on securities and financial institutions matters. His experience includes:

  • Examining market efficiency, price impact, loss causation, and damages on numerous Rule 10b-5, Section 11, and Section 12 matters
  • Performing event studies on common shares, American depositary receipts (ADRs), preferred stock, and corporate bonds trading on multiple exchanges and in over-the-counter (OTC) markets
  • Assessing damages calculations in mediation and settlement talks
  • Evaluating allegations of collusive trading behavior in OTC markets and interest rate benchmark manipulation
  • Estimating damages and evaluating losses in residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS) cases

Prior to joining Cornerstone Research, Dr. Wilson was a consultant at JPMorgan Benefit and Compensation Strategies, where he provided actuarial services to pension plans. During his Ph.D. studies, he worked with the risk management and tactical asset allocation team of a large public pension fund.
