Eesha Sharma is a noted consumer behavior expert specializing in issues at the intersection of marketing, psychology, finance, and economics. Using surveys, experiments, and field studies, Professor Sharma analyzes the psychological and contextual factors that shape consumers’ judgments, decisions, and behaviors. Her expertise spans consumer financial decision-making, consumption behavior, value perceptions, and resource management.
Professor Sharma has been retained as an expert witness and has testified in deposition.
In her research, Professor Sharma analyzes psychological, social, and structural drivers of consumer behavior across the customer decision journey. Her work particularly highlights how subjective perceptions of financial constraints and scarcity influence individuals’ choices, including their financial management practices, spending patterns, and interactions with marketplace offerings and public policy initiatives. Professor Sharma’s insights are broadly applicable to matters alleging consumer fraud, deceptive marketing practices, and product liability, where understanding consumer judgment and decision-making is critical.
At SDSU, Professor Sharma teaches courses in consumer and buyer behavior. She previously served on the faculty at Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business. Since 2021, she has served a visiting scholar in the Consumer Finance Institute at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
An award-winning author, Professor Sharma has published articles in top academic journals, including the Journal of Consumer Psychology, the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Her research has also been cited by the BBC, CNBC, Forbes, NPR, and the Wall Street Journal, among other media outlets. Professor Sharma has served on several editorial boards and speaks widely at professional conferences, as well as leading universities and business schools.
Before entering academia, Professor Sharma worked as an investment banking analyst in the financial institutions group at Goldman Sachs.
