William Silber is an expert in securities pricing and trading, futures and options, and financial institutions and markets. During his career, he has made significant contributions in economics and finance, and provided expert witness testimony in class certification and at trial.

Professor Silber has testified before Congress and consulted with various government agencies, including the Federal Reserve Board, the U.S. Senate Committee on the Budget, the House Committee on Banking and Financial Services, and the President’s Commission on Financial Structure and Regulation. He has been retained as a testifying expert on numerous cases, including In Re DaimlerChrysler AG Securities Litigation, a matter before the United States District Court for the District of Delaware.

Professor Silber has published articles in leading professional journals, and was an associate editor of the Journal of Finance and the Review of Economics and Statistics. He coauthored Principles of Money, Banking & Financial Markets, now in its twelfth edition. His book Volcker: The Triumph of Persistence was named the China Business News (CBN) 2013 Financial Book of the Year, and was a finalist for the Financial Times and Goldman Sachs 2012 Business Book of the Year Award.

At NYU, Professor Silber has received several awards for teaching excellence, including the university’s Distinguished Teaching Medal, and was voted Professor of the Year three times by MBA students at NYU Stern. He was the Dean Abraham Gitlow Professor of Economics and Finance at NYU Stern between 1990 and 2002, and served as the director of the Glucksman Institute for Research in Securities Markets between 1985 and 2018.
