Pro Bono: Identifying Irregularities in Eviction Practices

Retained by NYLAG

The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) retained Laurien Gilbert of Cornerstone Research to analyze data in connection with the process of serving legal notices. Dr. Gilbert and the Cornerstone team analyzed process servers’ service logbooks to identify inconsistencies and patterns of improper service of eviction notices on low-income tenants in Section 8 housing.

Cornerstone turned years of raw service records into clear, evidence-based analysis that strengthened our clients’ case.

NYLAG recognized Cornerstone Research with an Honorable Mention at its annual pro bono celebration, noting:

“Cornerstone turned years of raw service records into clear, evidence-based analysis that strengthened our clients’ case… We are deeply grateful for their partnership and their commitment to making sure tenants get the notice and day in court the law requires.”
