Cornerstone Research, a leading provider of economic and financial consulting and expert testimony, announced today that Alexander P. Moscoso has joined the firm as a senior economist. Based in the Washington, DC office, Mr. Moscoso brings several years of senior executive service (SES) leadership and a decade of experience leading economic teams, having served as Chief Economist for both the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The addition of Mr. Moscoso strengthens the firm’s capabilities in navigating high-stakes regulatory impact analysis, healthcare valuation, and matters at the intersection of consumer safety and market competition.

“Alex’s ability to translate complex regulatory hurdles into clear, actionable economic insights makes him an invaluable asset to our clients as they confront an evolving regulatory landscape,” said Kostis Hatzitaskos, senior vice president and cohead of Cornerstone’s economics practices. “His experience leading multidisciplinary teams to evaluate national safety policies adds a critical ‘real-world’ federal perspective to our healthcare and consumer-related work.”

Navigating complex regulatory and antitrust landscapes

At the CPSC, Mr. Moscoso directed the Injury Cost Model (ICM), a critical tool for quantifying the societal and economic burden of consumer injuries. His tenure involved high-level coordination with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), where he evaluated the economic impact of proposed regulations on market competition and potential monopoly risks—experience that is central to Cornerstone’s antitrust litigation work.

A multidisciplinary approach to litigation

Mr. Moscoso has a proven track record of managing regulatory strategies and quantifying impacts across diverse hazards. His experience spans executive branch and international stages, including representing the CPSC on the Subcommittee on Frontiers of Benefit-Cost Analysis and leading U.S. efforts at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to refine global economic modeling.

“I am thrilled to join a team known for its rigorous analytical standards and commitment to excellence,” said Mr. Moscoso. “Having spent years evaluating issues at the nexus of public policy, safety, and economics, I look forward to helping our clients navigate their most pressing regulatory challenges with data-driven clarity.”
