Education

Julia Gonzalez consults on antitrust matters, including conduct litigation, mergers, class actions, and regulatory proceedings. Dr. Gonzalez applies her expertise in statistics, big data, and industrial organization to lead and manage project teams conducting competition analyses related to market definition, market power, and competitive effects.

Dr. Gonzalez supports experts and works with clients through all phases of litigation, including discovery, production and analysis of complex proprietary data, case strategy, depositions, and trial. Her industry experience includes consumer packaged goods, e-commerce, gasoline, telecommunications, and video games.

Antitrust and competition

Dr. Gonzalez evaluates allegations of anticompetitive conduct such as monopolization, foreclosure, price fixing, and tying. Her experience spans class certification, liability, causation, and damages analysis in antitrust class actions, government enforcement, and competitor lawsuits. Dr. Gonzalez’s work includes:

  • Addressing monopolization claims against digital platforms
  • Analyzing alleged price parity clauses and other pricing policies
  • Consulting on Epic v. Apple, which Global Competition Review recognized as its 2022 Matter of the Year
  • Assessing antitrust damages in the data analytics and medical device industries
  • Analyzing allegations of commodity price manipulation
Mergers

On behalf of government agencies and merging parties, Dr. Gonzalez analyzes the unilateral and coordinated effects of mergers. Her experience includes the T-Mobile/Sprint merger, Edgewell Personal Care Company’s proposed acquisition of Harry’s Inc., and an agribusiness firm’s proposed purchase of a competitor’s assets.

Dr. Gonzalez has published articles about merger efficiencies in specialized and academic publications and submitted a comment to the Draft Merger Guidelines released by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in July 2023.

Regulatory matters

Dr. Gonzalez provides economic analysis in regulatory proceedings. In the telecommunications industry, her work includes the evaluation of service quality regulations and surcharge calculation methodologies and their effects on competition.

Thought leadership

Dr. Gonzalez has published research in peer-reviewed and specialist professional journals. She has coauthored articles on the procompetitive effects of mergers, the effect of U.S. airline mergers on quality provision, and gas stations’ pricing strategies, among other topics.
