Julia Tanndal

Julia Tanndal consults on antitrust and competition matters, with a dual focus on competition litigation and mergers. Dr. Tanndal works on matters involving abuse of dominance allegations and class actions. In her merger work, she has assisted with filings and responses to competition agencies including the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), the Canadian Competition Bureau (CCB), the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition (DG COMP), as well as national agencies in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

Dr. Tanndal supports attorneys and experts in all phases of commercial litigation and regulatory investigations. She also has experience consulting on data residency issues related to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Competition litigation

• Analyzing allegations of abuse of dominance and coordination arising in the entertainment and technology industries
• Assessing the competitive effects of a patent settlement in In re HIV Antitrust Litigation, a rare trial centering on a settlement between a brand and generic drug manufacturer

Mergers

• Consulting on the closely watched $110 billion Paramount Skydance/Warner Bros. Discovery merger, where she assisted with review of merger processes outside the United States
• Evaluating vertical issues in a proposed merger between an entertainment company and technology firm, which were incorporated into white papers presented to the FTC, the CMA, and the European Commission’s DG COMP
• Consulting on vertical and horizontal mergers in the digital entertainment, media, and telecommunications industries, as well as pre-complaint investigations in the healthcare industry
• Analyzing the competitive effects of vertical and horizontal mergers on behalf of both regulators and merging parties
